Local Search Marketing
In the “offline brick and mortar world” a large part of your success in getting lots of people in the door is ‘location’. A fast food drive-thru will have many more customers if it is right next to a busy college rather than on a lonely street on the outskirts of town, where no one goes.
When it comes to the World Wide Web, your search engine ranking is like your ‘location’. If your business shows up in the top results of the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing MSN, you will experience an abundance of leads entering your ‘doors’ regularly by either phoning in or by visiting your website.
The technical term for getting your local business to show up at the top of the search engines is “Local Search”. It is the process of using onsite and offsite optimization methods, to show the search engine that your business is the most relevant for the particular phrase a person has entered in the search box.
- 73% of all online activity is related to local content
- 82% of local searchers follow up with a phone call or show up on your doorstep
- 66% of Americans use local search to find local businesses
Because the ranking criteria the search engines use to judge and rank changes so often, success with this marketing method depends not only on your knowledge of the key concepts, but also on staying up to date and on the cutting edge of the ever changing rules.
Luckily our team has years of experience in successfully attaining and maintaining top local search rankings for our clients. We also always update our methods with the latest changes.

Google My Business
In addition to your business being ranked in the search engines, another powerful tool is Google My Business (previously Google+ Local, Google Places, Google Maps). Google has now transitioned to this new service which puts your business info on Search, Maps and Google+ so that customers can find you, no matter what device they are using. It is also a more social version for you and your customers than the previous Google Places and Google Maps.
Google My Business will show information about your business including business description, contact information, location, directions, hours, website URL, reviews, videos, special offers and photos. It displays well on computers, mobile phones and tablets.
What About Google Places?
What is great about Google My Business is the similarity to company Facebook pages. In addition it is indexed by search engines (Google Places was not indexed by search engines). If you had a Google Places page or Google+ Local page you will now find that it is being replaced with Google My Business and your information is being switched over to the new format.
Google My Business has many advantages over other types of business profile pages. It can be optimized to show up in more Google search results, giving you even greater exposure and far more leads.
The combination of local search, mobile and optimized Google My Business, along with user reviews, makes Google My Business the greatest opportunity for businesses to do social media marketing.
If you do not have Google My Business or if you have not had yours optimized yet, now is the time to get started. It really works well. At First Page Corporation, we are happy to help.
